Foundation Learning

Foundation Learning

At The Cheadle College our Foundation Learning offer is split into three distinct pathways; Choices Provision (for learners with learning difficulties and/or disabilities), Vocational Studies and our Supported Internship programme.

Programme Features

Extra Support

We assess each of our learners’ needs and provide individual support with 1-to-1's or in class support for groups where required.

Progression

Each programme is designed to help learners' progress either into the world of work or onto a higher level of study here at Cheadle

Smaller Class Sizes

Ensuring each learner is receiving the support and opportunities available to them, our class sizes are smaller to provide a better learning environment.

Employability skills

We provide learners with the skills to engage with employers, supporting them to effectively communicate and problem solve in order to find and sustain work.

Additional Information

Entry Level 1 in Pre-vocational study

The Entry Level 1 in Pre-vocational study course has been designed to allow learners working at pre-Entry or Entry 1 to develop their personal and social skills to progress to further study or independent living. The units within this course cover areas such as communication, money skills, independent travel, sports, enterprise and creativity. Learners will also have opportunities to take part in visits, dance and drama activities and work placements.

Entry Level 2 in Pre-vocational study

This course has been designed for learners working at or towards Entry 2 to develop their skills further to support their progression to supported employment or further study. This course will cover a wide range of units in areas such as setting goals, working with others, knowledge for living in the wider community, dealing with problems, developing self, healthy living, budgeting and preparing for work.

This course is intended to help students gain skills that will help them enter employment, build confidence and raise self-esteem. They will also have the opportunity to develop their own interests in areas such as gardening, sport and drama while taking part in external work placements.

Vocational Studies is a one to two year course (depending on learner level at entry) designed to enable you to explore different vocational areas.

These areas may include Business & ICT, Sport & Leisure, Health & Social Care, Hospitality, Travel & Tourism and Retail Operation. It is hoped that as you study various vocational options you will widen your knowledge, enabling you to make informed career choices. The vocational units are at the heart of this programme of study and begin with an evaluation of your skills and qualities and conclude with career planning for your future.

You will also be offered the opportunity to enjoy work experience. This helps you to apply knowledge gained on placement to your vocational studies and past learners have found this experience most enjoyable

A supported internship is a type of study programme specifically aimed at young people aged 16 to 24 who have a statement of special educational needs or an EHC plan, who want to move into employment and need extra support to do so.

The course features classroom based learning designed to identify and develop skills needed for employment such as; interview techniques, communication skills and team building.

You can look forward to growing in confidence, building your self-esteem and developing your existing skills and learning new ones. You will also benefit from an individually tailored and on-going work placement in which you will be supported in a job role with a local employer.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for our Foundation Learning offer. Applicants for all our Foundation programmes are invited into the college for an interview and/or taster day prior to enrolment to assess their suitability for the course.  The interview is an informal process, carried out in a supportive environment.
